Shades of the Job (ebook)

Meticulous private investigator Stanley Melvin takes on what should be a routine background check — right in his own building — on the ex-boyfriend of his downstairs neighbor, Violet. It should be straightforward. Stanley is certain of this. But his best friend and annoying neighbor Rudy is equally certain that a beautiful woman in trouble, a dangerous man from her past, and a mysterious burglary with nothing stolen add up to anything but routine.

Stanley tries to ignore him and focus on the facts. But as the case escalates into something far more personal and dangerous than any background check has a right to be, he begins to see what Rudy's been seeing from the start — that real life, it turns out, comes in all the shades of the job.
